How to import scene collections into OBS studio 2025

Your stream deserves more than a makeshift setup. OBS Studio 2025 gives you scene collections, a powerful feature that lets you save your full streaming layout — scenes, sources, transitions, and all — into one neat file. Whether you’re a first-timer or swapping out yesterday’s layout for something sharper, importing scene collections is the fastest way to get up and running with a professional look.

If you purchased an overlay from our store, you’re already ahead. After downloading the files, your ready-to-import .json files are located here:
Overlay_folder > START HERE > OBS_Studio

Let’s get your scene collection imported, linked, and live.

How to Import a Scene Collection into OBS Studio

Step 1: Find the .json File

Scene collections come as .json files.
If you’re using one of our overlays, look inside the Overley folder > START HERE > OBS_Studio folder you downloaded.

Seeing a Missing Files Warning?

After importing, OBS might show this message:
“Some files are missing since you last used OBS.”

That means OBS can’t locate certain media files used in the scenes. It happens when the file paths have changed or the assets weren’t transferred with the .json file.

Understand What’s Missing

OBS remembers file paths, not the files themselves. If a video or image used in the overlay isn’t where OBS expects it, you’ll get a warning..

Step 1: Locate the Media Files

If you bought an overlay from our store, all required “missing” assets are included in your download. You’ll find them in the main folder of the overlay package you received.

Step 2: Use the Search Directory Tool

When OBS shows the warning, click Search Directory and locate the folder containing your overlay files (the folder you downloaded).
Inside the main folder, open something like Premade Overlays. If you don’t see any files — or only a PNG folder, like in our packs — don’t worry. Just click Select Folder. OBS will attempt to re-link the files automatically.
Repeat this step for any remaining missing files.

Step 3: Confirm and Apply Changes

If all missing files have been successfully re-linked, simply click Apply

Step 4: Final Check

If you followed all the steps correctly, the missing media should now appear in your scenes just as intended. OBS will remember the new file paths, and your layout will be fully functional and ready to stream.
No more warning messages. No more invisible overlays. Just a clean, complete setup — exactly how it was meant to look.
